Music for Adults

Chancel Bells - Sundays at 9am

The Chancel Bells are an advanced Handbell Choir that meets in the Fellowship Hall and prepares music for 11am worship service and other occasions.


Chancel Choir - Sundays at 5pm  (Coming Soon)

The Chancel Choir prepares music for Sunday worship and other events.  They sing a variety of different styles of music and prepare and present musicals and cantatas for particular seasons and events during the year.  The choir sings during the 11am worship service.


The Current Worship Team - Sundays at 6pm

The Current Worship Team prepares music for the Wednesday Night Contemporary Worship Service.  They meet in the Family Life Center for rehearsals and worship.

Music for Youth

Sundays - Youth are invited to participate in Chancel Bells, the Chancel Choir, and The Current rehearsals that occur outside of regularly scheduled Youth Activities.

Throughout the Year - Youth musicians are invited to sing or play music as soloists or ensembles in worship and for special events.

Part-Time Pianist

Part-time Pianist/Accompanist Job Description

First United Methodist Church Springtown, TX seeks a skilled pianist gifted in accompanying and passionate about leading worship to join the music ministry team. The pianist/accompanist will play piano for congregational songs with the near future goal to accompany the Chancel Choir during Sunday church services, as well as accompany the Choir for Sunday evening rehearsals. This position reports to the Director of Music & Worship and is overseen by the Pastor and Staff-Parish Relations Committee. Applicants should have experience in choral accompanying and leading hymn singing, and also be capable of leading contemporary Christian music. Applicants chosen to interview should be prepared for an interview with a panel including the Pastor and Music Director, as well as an “in-worship” audition demonstrating technical piano ability, a performance of a piece selected by the Music Director, and hymns selected from the United Methodist Hymnal for that morning’s worship celebration.  The applicant will also play a sight-reading piece selected by the music director.

 

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Possess a strong Christian Faith and dedicated to continued spiritual growth
  • Ability to play hymns, service music, and special music of moderate difficulty
  • Experience with and basic knowledge of church music
  • Flexibility, sight-reading, and simple improvisatory abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Possess good organizational and communication skills.

 

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Play at Sunday Blended Worship Service (11am) every Sunday (Rehearsal at 10am) throughout the year.
  • Play at Sunday Evening Choir Rehearsal (5pm) throughout the year when choir is re-established Fall 2022.
  • Responsible for selection and preparation of appropriate service music including: prelude, offertory, postlude, and special music during communion, with direction from music director.
  • This position does not require liturgical planning.
  • Play as scheduled for special services, including evening Holy Week services (Thursday and Friday before Easter), Christmas Eve service, Evening Lenten services as needed, and others TBD.
  • Accompany choir for musical performances
  • Play, for extra compensation to be provided by those requesting services, for weddings, funerals, memorial services, as needed.
  • With assistance from music director, arrange for acceptable substitute as able when unable to attend service.

 

Anticipated time commitment:

  • Sunday 10:00am–12:15pm weekly.
  • Sunday 5:00--5:55pm weekly
  • Occasional involvement with the band as needed
  • Preparation outside of choir rehearsal and worship

 

Compensation:

- $300 per month

Additional pay for special services and events.
